Duffy’s Sports Grill officially opened their first Tampa location last month, replacing the Macaroni Grill at 1580 N Dale Mabry Hwy. The Lake Worth-based chain has more than 30 locations, starting in South Florida and expanding north.

“We first came to Orlando, then started looking toward the West Coast,” said president Jason Emmett. “Now it’s increasingly become our focus and we think we could open another five more if we find great spots in Clearwater, St. Petersburg, etc.”

Emmett took over as president last year, following the unexpected passing of his father.

“My dad’s original plan was that he wanted to be able to drive an hour from his house to every location, but we realized we needed to expand that,” Emmett said.

Tampa was included in that expansion plan.

“We do better in neighborhoods and like to become part of the community and I think Tampa is very community-focused,” Emmett said.

Not wanting to be considered solely a sports bar, the televisions are muted unless it’s a big game day. Otherwise music accompanies the cuisine such as the new Ahi poke bowl with diced tuna and avocado.

They also cater to families with Kids Day on Wednesdays where kids eat for free.
