Memorial Day weekend is here, and that means it’s time heat up the grill. We’re big fans of burgers here at Duffy’s, and in honor of Memorial Day and May 27th’s National Burger Day we wanted to offer you three tricks for creating the perfect burger patty!
The right meat
Find a butcher you trust and order freshly ground chuck, preferably certified Angus beef. However, the real key to a supremely juicy patty is in the 80/20 rule! Ask your butcher to ground you a magical mix of 80% lean meat to 20% fat. We promise you won’t be disappointed!
Be gentle with your meat and make sure to loosely form your patty before cooking. Try to restrain yourself from packing your burger tight and flattening it down with a spatula, you don’t want to disrupt those juices! Just remember, spatulas are made for flipping not pressing.
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper are all you need to make a mouthwatering patty! Be patient with your seasoning technique and make sure to season one side at a time. We guarantee this simple combo will make your burger a real hit!
If you really want to impress your friends during this “burger- ific” weekend, follow this simple recipe for Duffy’s Special Sauce. Be warned, you may find yourself wanting to slather it on everything from burgers and hotdogs to fries!
Duffy’s Special Sauce
1 cup Hellman’s Mayo
¼ cup Ketchup
2 tablespoons Dill relish
1 tablespoon Chipotle Chiles, mashed with fork
1/4 teaspoon celery salt
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
2 tablespoons finely grated onion
Mix ingredients together in a bowl.
